Challenge: Client needed a PCI compliant method to allow 3rd tier support to troubleshoot and correct POS Terminals and data files (credit card data) via remote access.

Solution Summary: Provided client with a 200-page build document detailing solution steps. Used state-of the art desk top virtualization with Windows server security technology and network firewall rules to create a secure sub-net to look at the raw credit card data on point of sale terminals, while preventing that data from being copied, moved or printed.

Solution Details: Using a combination of Microsoft® Windows 2003 Server Group Policy Objects, OS hardening (making the Windows® Operating System more secure), VMWare® Workstation and ACE (Assured Computing Environment) Management Server, George Kuffel Consulting was able to provide a virtual Windows environment with a secure sub-net that allowed the 3rd tier DBAs to decrypt store POS store data, repair damaged file information and return that data to the store POS devices. Although these images were running virtually from a physical desktop, white list firewall rules active within the virtual images prevented communications with any devices other than the store POS terminal.

Challenge: Client needed to link its home office and out-of-state business acquisitions with voice and data.

Solution Summary: Used emerging network and VoIP technologies to connect the offices' voice and data solutions, reducing hardware and telephone costs.

Solution Details: Using a combination of Cisco® routers, MPLS network technology, 3COM® VoIP phone systems, Citrix® Presentation Server, and Windows® desktops,. George Kuffel Consulting was able to connect all remote offices to the home office (where the load balanced Citrix® servers resided) to run from the same database servers.  We also configured those offices with installed 3COM® Voice over IP phone systems to route calls through the MPLS network and save on long distance changes and provide a seamless coverage among all office locations.

Challenge: Client needed complete analysis and development of long term strategies for aging data center and IT infrastructure. 

Solution Summary: Developed a strategic direction plan for the IT Department to address servers in the data center, desktops and remote access.

Solution Details: Worked with client to understand and analyze their existing environment and identify current and potential problems.  Developed site-specific white paper to address three areas of need: Aging and inefficient server infrastructure, Desktop management and life cycle, and Secure remote access.  Proposed a combination of clustered VMWare® servers, virtual desktops, and Citrix® Presentation Servers to address the complex, multi-operating system environment.

Challenge: Client needed to migrate 250+ users from a long standing Novell® Netware environment to a Microsoft® Windows 2003 Server based network.

Solution Summary: Seamlessly migrated from Novell to Windows over the course of a weekend. 

Solution Details: Using a combination of 3rd party and Microsoft® tools, George Kuffel Consulting was able to seamlessly migrate all 250 users over the course of a standard weekend.  This included migrating the login scripts from Novell to Windows, all security, all data, and all user accounts.
